New images from Apollo Image Archive
Here's some new images from the Apollo Image Archive that I've picked out. Some of my favourite areas.
These are all from the mapping cameras of either Apollo 16 or 15.
They have been cropped and "Shadows/Highlights" (brilliant tool) adjusted in CS3.
Messier craters.

Interesting section of Schröter's Valley.

Hadley Rille; Apollo 15 landing site.

Taurus Littrow; Apollo 17 landing site.

Archimedes & Hadley Rille from Feb 2008
4 Image mosaic from earlier this year. I had trouble stitching this one together last February. I couldn't get the shades of the 4 images to match very well.
Now I used CS3 photomerge and it worked a lot better, nearly fully automatic using the interactive layout setting. Which is a bit of a must for Moon mosaics, I think one crater looks very similar to another for CS3 ;-)

Hadley Rille from March 2007
4x Imagemate image. Nearly the same sun angle when the crew from Apollo 15 landed.Hadley mountain is top of image, half in shadow with rille below. They landed in the middle, between the rille and the mountain.
You can also make out St. George crater, just on the corner of the rille as it takes a right turn going South.
Apollo 15 image of the top part of the rille taken from lunar orbit.Monday, February 26, 2007

The Apennines 27th Jan 2007
Montes Apenninus are a rugged mountain range on the northern part of the Moon's near side. They named for the Apennine Mountains in Italy. This range forms the southeastern border of the large Mare Imbrium lunar mare. It begins just to the west of the prominent Eratosthenes crater, which is abutted against the southern face of the range. To the west of these mountains is a narrow gap where Mare Imbrium in the north joins Mare Insularum to the south. Further to the west are the Montes Carpatus mountains.
From Eratosthenes, the mountains form an arcing chain that gradually bends from east to northeast, ending at Promontorium Fresnel at about latitude 29.5° N. Here is another gap where the Mare Imbrium to the west joins the Mare Serenitatis to the east. At the north end of this gap lie the Montes Caucasus.
